AI and the Power of Possibility
Understanding, Exploring, and Creating with Artificial Intelligence
Summer 2026

For Summer 2026, our theme, AI and the Power of Possibility: Understanding, Exploring, and Creating with Artificial Intelligence, invites scholars into the exciting intersection of creativity and emerging technology. Through hands-on experiences, participants will discover how AI systems process information and make decisions, while also examining the human choices that shape how these systems are built and used.

By interacting with AI companions such as EMO, scholars will observe how people and intelligent technologies can collaborate in meaningful ways. Along the journey, they will strengthen critical thinking skills, learn to evaluate AI-generated content, and reflect on what it means to engage with technology responsibly.

The program culminates in a Community Showcase, where scholars share their learning with family members and community partners through interactive demonstrations that highlight curiosity, creativity, and understanding.

In 2021, with funding from the Indiana Department of Education, Girls and Guys STEM Institute (G&GSI) was developed under the Girls STEM Institute (GSI) umbrella to serve scholars in historically marginalized communities academically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. G&GSI partners with school districts to provide interdisciplinary and socially transformative STEM and literacy learning experiences as an afterschool program and summer intensive ranging from 1 to 4 weeks for scholars in grades 3-8. Leveraging our current partnerships with community and higher education entities, we provide scholars opportunities to focus on their STEM Identity and overall wellness and well-being.
Through culturally relevant learning, scholars can develop a meaningful understanding of mathematics and other STEM concepts. Within our program's robust, relevant, and supportive context, young scholars have the freedom to grow interpersonally and intellectually.
